Simi Mahtani is a New York City based BIPOC visual artist and community curator. While fragile and even fleeting, Papier-mache is an ancient, extensively explored medium. Building on this tradition, Mahtani evolves expectations of its temporality by constructing with vibrant pigments and archival layering techniques. Her sculptural materialization of recycled paper matter is note worthy in an increasingly digital age and counters the pressures that newly produced paper products inflict on the environment.
